Des Moines Food Security Task Force
- Work with City Manager to develop and promote urban agricultural practices.
- Research best practices related to urban agriculture in other urban areas, compare them to City practices, and make recommendations for ordinances based on those practices.
- Develop a resource guide on where to find tools, soil, compost, seeds, seedlings, laying hens, honey bees, and other urban agriculture equipment, supplies, and guidance
This task force will be composed of 7 members: 3 with urban farm experience in the City, 1 restaurant or other business owner who sources and uses local foods, 1 person experienced in caring for fruit and nut trees, 1 person who has raised poultry or livestock within the City, and 1 farmer or other market professional who is involved with farm-to-market production.
