Des Moines Food Security Task Force

Task force goals:
  • Work with City Manager to develop and promote urban agricultural practices.
  • Research best practices related to urban agriculture in other urban areas, compare them to City practices, and make recommendations for ordinances based on those practices.
  • Develop a resource guide on where to find tools, soil, compost, seeds, seedlings, laying hens, honey bees, and other urban agriculture equipment, supplies, and guidance

General Requirements

This task force will be composed of 7 members: 3 with urban farm experience in the City, 1 restaurant or other business owner who sources and uses local foods, 1 person experienced in caring for fruit and nut trees, 1 person who has raised poultry or livestock within the City, and 1 farmer or other market professional who is involved with farm-to-market production.
