The Traffic & Transportation division installs and maintains all traffic signals within the City of Des Moines. The City operates and maintains over 450 traffic signals, pedestrian signals and school flashers.

HAWK Pedestrian Signal
The City has installed HAWK pedestrian signals in several locations. This signal provides a way to increase pedestrian safety while reducing the amount of delay for vehicles. See our HAWK Signal Brochure for more information.
Accessible Pedestrian Signal (APS)
An APS is a special type of pedestrian push-button at a traffic signal that provides tones or voice message to assist low vision or blind in crossing the street. To request an APS at an existing signalized location, fill out and submit the APS request form.
