Community Education

The Des Moines Fire Department’s Fire Prevention Bureau provides numerous public safety programs with the goal of reducing accidents and injuries. The content of the program can be tailored to your group or organization. Perhaps you are wondering how people with limited mobility can protect themselves from fire. Or perhaps you are a manager of a downtown high-rise structure and want to learn what you can do to help keep the building and its inhabitants safe. The Fire Prevention Bureau can offer recommendations based on specific challenges. The Bureau can also discuss local and national trends

Some of the programs available include:

  • Presentation on life and fire safety to civic groups, churches, and other organizations
  • Fire extinguisher training for adults in the workplace
  • Fire/evacuation drill evaluations for schools, residential facilities or businesses
  • Child safety talks for elementary schools, day cares and camps on fire and life safety
  • Middle/high school presentations on public service and the fire service as a career
