Fire Prevention Week

Fire Prevention Week is celebrated annually during the first full week of October to promote attention to Fire Safety. Originally started in response to some of the largest disastrous fires in American History, this week serves as an important reminder to consider fire safety in your daily life and ensure that your family always has a plan in case of a fire emergency.

The theme of 2021's Fire Prevention Week is "The Sounds of Fire Safety" and our efforts will be around educating residents about the different noises related to fire safety and what those noises are telling you.

We are also hosting Storytimes at Des Moines Public Library branches all week long during Fire Prevention Week, so come out to meet our firefighters and learn more about the Sounds of Fire Safety! Times and locations are in the table below.
