Types of Watercraft to Rent
All watercraft rent for $8/half hour or $15/hour.

  • June 15 - Aug. 2 from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. Daily
  • Aug. 3 - Sept. 7 (Labor Day) - 1 p.m. - 8 p.m. Weekdays | 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. Weekends

  • Watercraft cannot be rented after 7 p.m.
  • Watercrafts cannot be reserved in advance, renting is first come-first served
  • You must be at least 14 years of age with a valid ID to rent without adult supervision

COVID-19 Rules/Regulations

PURPOSE
This guidance was formed from various recommendations, from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Iowa Department of Public Health, National Parks and Recreation Association and other public health organizations, as mitigation efforts to help ensure patron and staff safety.   

NOTICE

If permittee or attendees are not in compliance with these Protocols, the Facility Use Permit is subject to immediate cancellation.  In addition, attendees found in violation of the Protocols will be requested to leave the premises if violations continue after one verbal warning of violation.  No refunds will be provided for any dates canceled or early termination of this Permit for violations. 

The City of Des Moines cannot guarantee that the renter or any of park users will not become infected with COVID-19.   Renter and park users use the City’s facility at their own risk. 

The Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right change the Facility Use requirements at any time and will contact applicant immediately with such changes.

PUBLIC/RENTER SAFETY

  • Any person who is experiencing symptoms of coronavirus or who has been in contact with anyone with a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis, in the last 14 days, will be prohibited from renting.  Polk County Public Health will be contacted if a positive case of COVID-19 is reported and provide guidance on additional steps, if needed.
  • Park users and renters must follow all CDC and public health guidance.
  • Park users and renters must ensure at least six feet of physical distance between each group or individual.
  • Per guidance from the Iowa Department of Public Health, masks are not required. If users would like to wear a mask, they may do so when they are out of the water and provided it does not compromise their safety.
  • Watercraft renters are required to wear lifejackets. 
  • Only the watercraft renter and family members in your immediate household are allowed on watercraft together.
  • Wash your hands before and after touching surfaces and shared use items, such as rentals. 

FACILITY SAFETY-CONCESSIONS/RESTROOMS/DRINKING FOUNTAINS

  • Any lines for restrooms or concessions are discouraged.  If there must be a line, renters must ensure at least six feet of physical distance between each group or individual. 
  • Concession/Watercraft Rental Area will be marked with six-feet distance measurements. 
  • Seating is limited to 50% of normal operating capacity. Users must ensure at least six feet of physical distance between each group or individual attending alone when seated.
  • Terrace tables in the area will be moved to maintain social distancing properly. Please do not relocate them. Concessionaire will be required to wipe down tables twice a day.  Users are encouraged to wipe down the tables before/after each use.
  • Drinking fountains will be closed for public use. 

FACILITY SAFETY-GENERAL/MISCELLANEOUS

  • Anyone currently with symptoms or who has been in contact with anyone with a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis in the last 14 days, will be prohibited from renting.
  • All renters and park users must obey all signage and follow social distancing guidelines.
  • All renters and park users are encouraged to wear a mask or other face covering until CDC, state and local authorities declare that masks are no longer recommended.
  • No more than 10 people are allowed on the docks and walkways, at one time. Wait off the dock until the 6-foot minimum distance can be observed. 
  • The dock is to be used for launching and docking of watercraft only. Loading/unloading and departure/return to your dock must be done in a prompt and direct manner. Upon docking, you must leave the area immediately. No other activity, including sitting in/on your watercraft after docking, is allowed.
  • A minimum of 6 feet distancing must always be maintained. Watercraft which are not at least 6 feet apart may not be loaded/unloaded or depart/docked at the same time. 

 FACILITY SAFETY-PARKING

  • Facility safety regulations apply to all areas, including parking lots.
  • All renters and park users are asked to maintain social distancing in the facility parking lots.
  • All renters and park users are asked to exit the facility and parking lot(s) immediately following park/concession use
