Aquatic Events

Half-Price Admission Nights
Make a splash at the pool Monday - Thursday from 5:00pm - 6:30pm throughout the summer.  Half-price daily admission applies.

Private Pool Rental
Rent one of our aquatic facilities for your next event.  Rentals are available to all persons, organizations, clubs and youth groups.  Reservations are arranged on a first-come, first-serve basis and depends on availability of staff.  Rates are set according to the number of people in your group.  
  • Rental requests must be made online at least 10 days prior to the date of facility use.
  • All facilities are available for private rental from June 8 - July 31.

Family Days
Grab the family and jump into the pool.  Enjoy Family Day at all City of Des Moines aquatic facilities.

Father's Day - June 16th
Make a splash on Father's Day, as we honor fathers and celebrate fatherhood with complimentary admission for fathers.

National Swim a Lap Day - June 24th
Grab your goggles and jump into one of the aquatic facilities and swim a lap or two.  Celebrate the sport of swimming with the City of Des Moines.

Military Appreciation Day - July 4th
Celebrate our nation's independence with the City of Des Moines.  For those who serve or have served our country, receive free admission to our aquatic facilities.  Thank-you for your service!

    • Free admission for active duty, retired and veteran military with military identification card
    • Immediate family members with military personnel receive half-price admission

National Parents' Day - July 28th
National Parents' Day is a day to honor all parents.  Stop by the aquatic centers and make a splash with your kids.

Doggie Dive
An opportunity for dogs to celebrate the last day of the pool season.  Dogs must be able to swim and be supervised by their owners at all times.
  • Cost:  $4 per dog, Regular admission for owners

    • 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Fitness Hour at Ashworth Swimming Pool
Fitness Hour welcomes patrons to participate in a variety of activities including: lap swim, aqua jog, utilize the Aqua Bike/Treadmill or participate in Total Body Aqua**.

  • Locations: Ashworth Swimming Pool

**Total Body Aqua is a class that combines cardiovascular exercise with core, strength, and stretching to give students of all fitness levels a total body workout. Class will be offered Mondays and Wednesdays with Instructor Jennifer Wagner and begin at 12:05 p.m. Class offered June 10 – July 25; no class held July 1 or 3.

Pools & Aquatic Centers

There are five pools and aquatic centers open from May until September. Season swim passes are available for individuals and families. If you purchase a swim pass during the month of April you can save $5 to $20.

You can rent our aquatic facilities for a private party.  This would be a unique option for your next birthday party or special event.

Family Swim Nights are held monthly and Doggie Dives are held the last day of the pool season as a great opportunity for dogs and their owners.

Splash Pools

There are four splash pools operated across Des Moines. A splash pool is a splash pad with standing water and spray features; offering water play specifically aimed at children ages 10 and under. City of Des Moines splash pools are staffed; however, parental supervision is strongly encouraged.

Spraygrounds

There are nine spraygrounds operating daily 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. from May 1 through September 30, free of charge.  A sprayground is a splash pad with spray features without standing water. Spraygrounds offer unsupervised water play. Staff is not provided at spraygrounds, so parental supervision is required.

Wading Pools

Our wading pool season extends from the first full week in June through mid-August. The days and hours of operation vary by facility. These water facilities are specifically aimed at children ages 10 and under. The wading pools are dispersed throughout the city and offer supervised water play. It is a great opportunity for children to meet other children, have fun, and build water confidence. Parental supervision is required.

Due to a shortage of seasonal staff available, the Parks and Recreation Department will not be able to open all eight of the City’s wading pools as expected on June 3, 2019. Current staffing levels will allow four of the wading pools to be open June 3-8  and four of the wading pools to be open June 10-14.

 If staffing issues continue, we will maintain this schedule as needed until more wading pools can be opened each week.
