Community Involvement

ForestryCommunity-InvolvementIf you're interested in helping our City with goals of growing our urban tree canopy, there are many ways to get involved. Below are a few of the easiest ways you can make a difference in no time!

Become a TreeKeeper Volunteer and learn to plant, prune, and advocate for our community’s trees! Together we learn about the benefits of trees, urban tree stressors, tree identification, tree care, tree hazards and more. Join nearly 200 TreeKeeper volunteers who help make Des Moines a greener place to live and a Tree City USA. Sign up for the volunteer training and you can be part of this hard-working, fun-loving, tree-hugging group.

Check back for future TreeKeepers training series dates.

TreeKeepers is a partnership between Trees Forever and the City of Des Moines.

IMT Des Moines Marathon
The IMT Des Moines Marathon is an exciting event held each fall. Because trees are so important to the running community, individuals are thrilled to plant 26.2 trees each year during the event. The City of Des Moines Forestry, Trees Forever, and TreeKeeper volunteers plant 26 trees and 2 seedlings (or 0.2 trees!) along the route as runners navigate the course. These trees will provide future runners shade for years to come.
