City Offers Free Trees to Des Moines Residents
DES MOINES, IOWA — Monday, February 10, 2020 — The City of Des Moines Public Works Department Forestry Division is offering FREE trees to all Des Moines residents again this year through the Tiny Trees program.
The program provides up to five FREE tiny trees for planting on private property. Residents have eight available species to choose from when they order. Orders can be placed online at DSM.city/tinytrees or by calling the 24-Hour Public Works Customer Service Call Center at (515) 283-4950. Orders must be received by Wednesday, April 15, 2020.
Each tree is approximately 16-24 inches tall and includes care instructions about what to do before, during and after planting. All orders will be available for pick up on Saturday, April 25, 2020 between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. at Polk County River Place (2309 Euclid Avenue).
Planting trees through the City has numerous benefits to residents including increasing property values in your neighborhood, reducing stormwater runoff, saving on heating and cooling bills, providing oxygen and creating habitat for wildlife. Since the program’s launch in 2017, more than 23,600 trees have been distributed.
