Notice of Public Hearing for Proposed Property Tax Levy
DES MOINES, IOWA — Wednesday, March 25, 2020 — The City Council will conduct a public hearing via teleconference on the proposed Fiscal Year City property tax levy on Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at 5 p.m. at the Richard A. Clark Municipal Service Center (1551 E. Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway).
Any resident or taxpayer may present their support of and objections to the proposed City tax levy during the public hearing teleconference. After adoption of the proposed tax levy, the Council will publish notice and hold a hearing on the proposed city budget.
With the proposed tax rate, the fiscal year 2021 rate would stay the same as fiscal year 2020 at $16.64 per $1,000 of taxable property value.
Due to the Governor’s current prohibition on gatherings of ten or more persons during the COVID19 outbreak, the City Council meeting and hearing on the proposed property tax levy will be conducted electronically. The City Council shall receive written objections or arguments in favor of the proposed tax levy from any resident or property owner of the City to the proposed property tax levy that are received by the City Clerk prior to 4:00 p.m. April 8, 2020 (City Clerk’s Office, Des Moines City Hall, 400 Robert D.
