Pet License Deadline Approaching

DES MOINES, IOWA – Tuesday, August 18, 2020 – Monday, August 31 is the deadline to purchase City of Des Moines dog and cat licenses without incurring a $50 per animal late fee. Completed applications postmarked on or before August 31 will avoid the late fee.

City Ordinance requires all cats and dogs six months and older to have a license. The cost is $15 for dogs and cats that are spayed or neutered, and $35 for dogs and cats that are not spayed or neutered. Special rates are available for residents over 65 years of age. Applications are available on the City’s website at DSM.city/animals.

Residents must provide a completed application and a current rabies vaccination certificate for each of their pets. Once everything is processed, the animal license tags will be mailed.

Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, City Administration Buildings are currently closed until at least October 1, 2020. The City Clerk’s Office is still available for business purposes Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Residents can submit applications and fees by mail or through a secure drop box at City Hall, 400 Robert D. Ray Drive.

For additional information, residents are encouraged to call the City Clerk’s Office at (515) 283-4209.
