City Unveils Neighborhood Communications Initiative
DES MOINES, IOWA — Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021 — The City of Des Moines this month is implementing a new initiative to strengthen communications efforts with dozens of neighborhood associations and thousands of residents. Presented recently to City Council members, the multi-faceted Neighborhood Communications Initiative includes a digital informational toolkit for neighborhood groups, a monthly e-newsletter, website upgrades and the next generation of the mobile app MyDSMobile.
“We know from our recent Resident Survey there is an appetite for more information about City services and programs,” said Chief Communications Officer Al Setka. “Through the Neighborhood Communications Initiative we will increase and enhance our touchpoints with the neighborhood groups and their members to deliver that information they seek.”
The Initiative’s first item to be delivered to the 52 neighborhood associations is the 2021 Neighborhood Toolkit – a digital publication to help residents stay informed and engaged with Des Moines government and direct them toward information about municipal services, events and program. The toolkit includes:
- Details about City’s restructured Neighborhood Services Department
- A list and map of all 52 Des Moines neighborhoods
- Info about City’s web apps: “Find My Neighborhood” and “Show Me My House”
- Summaries of most popular pages on City’s website DSM.city
- Ways for residents to stay connected, receive updates from the City
- Tips on how neighborhood associations can keep members engaged
- Connections for residents, neighborhoods to stay involved with City government
The 2021 Neighborhood Toolkit is available for download here.
In addition to the toolkit, Setka said the second installment of the neighborhood e-newsletter will go out later this month, upgrades are underway to the resident and neighborhood sections of DSM.city and a new version of the City’s mobile app, MyDSMobile will be completed next month.
