Notice of Public Hearing for Proposed Property Tax Levy
DES MOINES, IOWA — Wednesday, January 27, 2021 — The City Council will conduct a public hearing electronically on the proposed fiscal year 2022 City of Des Moines property tax levy on Monday, February 8, 2021 at 5 p.m. via Zoom.
Any resident or taxpayer may present their support of and objections to the proposed City tax levy during the public hearing teleconference. After adoption of the proposed tax levy, the Council will publish notice and hold a hearing on the proposed city budget.
With the proposed tax rate, the fiscal year 2022 rate would reduce slightly to $16.61 from the fiscal year 2021 rate of $16.61156 per $1,000 of taxable property value. If approved, this would continue the trend of reducing the property tax rate each year since the Local Option Sales & Services Tax was approved in March 2019.
In accordance with the Governor and Mayor proclamations related to the COVID-19 outbreak and the City Manager’s decision to delay the opening of City buildings to the public, it is impossible or impractical to have physical public access to the City Council meeting location and the public hearing will be conducted with electronic public access to the meeting.
