2021 Pet Registration Due Wednesday, March 31

Press Release

Des Moines, Iowa — Thursday, March 25, 2021 —  Wednesday, March 31 is the deadline to register for City of Des Moines dog and cat licenses without incurring a $50 per animal late fee. Completed applications submitted online or postmarked by March 31 will avoid the late fee.

City ordinance requires all dogs and cats six months and older to have a license. The cost is $15 for dogs and cats that are spayed or neutered, and $35 for dogs and cats that are not spayed or neutered. Special rates are available for residents over 65 years of age. Applications are available on the City’s website at DSM.city/pets.

Residents are asked to submit a completed license application and current rabies vaccination certificate for each of their pets. Although in-person service is currently suspended due to COVID-19, a secure dropbox for documentation and payment is available on the east side of City Hall at 400 Robert D. Ray Drive.

Annual dog park passes are also available for purchase for $20. Dog park passes allow access to all dog parks maintained by the City. Visit dmparks.org to learn more about the City’s dog parks and applicable rules.
