City Buildings To Close and Garbage Collection Delayed Due To Thanksgiving Holiday

Des Moines, Iowa — Monday, November 22, 2021 — City administration buildings will be closed Thursday, November 25th and Friday, November 26th in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Additionally, due to sewer issues, the Armory building (602 Robert D. Ray Drive) will be closed all week long from Monday, November 22 until Monday, November 29. All City administration buildings will reopen on Monday, November 29.

Because of the Thanksgiving holiday, City garbage, recycling and yard waste collections will also be delayed on Thursday, November 25th. 

  • Thursday routes will be collected on Friday.
  • Friday routes will be collected on Saturday.

Residents who normally have their carts collected on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays will not be affected. Normal garbage, recycling and yard waste collection will resume on Monday, November 29.
