Summer City Hoops basketball court lighting ceremony
DES MOINES, IOWA — Wednesday, May 29, 2019 — Summer City Hoops is going under the lights. Summer City Hoops will kick-off its second season at Evelyn Davis Park on Thursday, June 13 with the installation of permanent lighting on the basketball courts. A ceremony to light the courts and recognize project partners will begin at 8:00 PM.
Project partners include Invest Health Des Moines, AMOS, Mid-Iowa Health Foundation and Wells Fargo.
Summer City Hoops is a late-night basketball program designed to work with youth and adults in Martin Luther King Jr. and Evelyn K. Davis Parks to build stronger, healthier, trustworthy relationships with neighbors, businesses, community leaders and government. In 2018, Summer City Hoops engaged more than 200 youth and adults each Thursday during the 10-week season and volunteers contributed over 300 hours of time.
